Necessity led me to first purchase my set of Shimano Long Cast reels. During an Autumn trip to France about 4 years ago I found a shoal of big fish around a tiny weedbed. Not really realizing how far away from the bank I was I placed my hookbait and proceeded to run back to shore. When 20 yards still away from my peg I bottomed out the spool on my trusty old 8000B GTE's. All that expense and the fish were out of reach!

So on my return 3 Longcast reels were immediately bought which hold a massive 550 yards of 15lb line. In the future no fish would be out of my reach again. I had every intention of using the reels solely for big waters and reverting back to my GTE's for my 'normal' fishing but since the Shimano Baitrunner Long Cast reels were fitted to my rods they've not come off.

I've used them everywhere from French venues to small one acre ponds. The clutch is a dream playing large or small fish and you are always in total control as the micro adjustment allows you to give the fish exactly the right amount of pressure with no fear of a hook pull.

As the name Baitrunner suggests, there is a facility also built in so you dont have to manually tighten down your clutch or fit a conversion as with most other big pit reels. This feature also has a tension adjustment so you can tailor this exactly to the fishing situation you are in. Today they are beautifully smooth and in as good a working condition as the day I bought them without any need for servicing. With a price tag now of £120 they are an absolute bargain when compared to the recommended retail price as seen in other tackle shops and I highly recommend them. They look pretty good too!
