Old Carp Lake

Picture

The Old lake is now no longer available to day ticket anglers
A great natural looking lake with lots of features below and on top of the water. There are 20 pegs on the lake, but only 18 used at one time.  Each swim has its own features to fish to. With 7 islands throughout the 5 acre lake there are plenty of hiding places for the fish. This Lake can be challenging at times and may not be the best choice for the inexperienced angler, but get it right and there can be multiple captures. Lakes like this are getting harder to find,  we have kept the lake looking natural as it can be without being too wild and commercial, an ethos  that has stayed with all previous owners and to the present day. We are slowly stopping day sessions on here due to it being more of a session lake, a minimum of 24hrs is a recommendation.
The stock is around 350 carp to 30lb plus, which are hand picked for looks not just size. We have a good assortment of Carp, from Scaly Mirrors to Ghosties and commons.

As of April 1st 2022 we have decided to turn the Old Carp Lake into a private syndicate, the membership price will be £495 per year. Please contact the shop on 01248 713410 for more information.
Tactics
This can vary on types of weather and time of year obviously. Finding the fish is a massive edge, if you can find them they can normally be caught. Being stealthy and quiet certainly helps here. We have found that those who share double swims rather than fishing individually, tend to have worse catch results, please bare this in mind before deciding to pitch up with a mate or as a group. A good quality boillie is essential for baiting up or pre-baiting, if here for a long session, again a massive edge. The lake is mainly a silty bottom with firm areas of clay and gravel. These are more likely to have been old feeding areas so fish just off the harder spots. Also zig fishing can be good all times of the year. Starting with a little and often approach works well and then top up after every fish.  We have bailiffs on hand most days and if you require any info or just ask the staff in the shop

Top Tips
  1. walk around the lake and find the fish, don't just pick the closest swim to the car park.
  2. Keep noise to a minimum, try to avoid    banging pegs in with hammers, shouting to other anglers etc.
  3. Fish accurately, with a good quality bait.
  4. ensure you inspect your rigs for hook sharpness, line damage etc and make sure the rigs are presented properly on the bottom.
  5. If you are in a group, spread out around the lake, don't just set up together. we can assure you having a social can severely damage your chances of a successful  session.
